User program stopping some websites from working

Hi guys

Not much on this section of the forum yet, but I'll give it a go.

We have the cloud product installed on all of our office machines. All works okay, except one machine.

The Sophos program stops popular websites from responding, such as facebook, bbc, msdn, etc. They just sit there and hang (not load at all), or load very slowly (take around 3 minutes to load).

As soon as I stopped all of the Sophos services, the websites loaded instantly.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • We are having an identical experience here across XP and Windows 7 and affecting several offices.

  • The same user is experiencing extremely high disk read rates from SAVService.exe.

  • Hi,

This slow page loading problem mentioned in this article:

    http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/9000/9100/120488.aspx

is fixed in the latest version of SAV 10.3.7 which is starting to be released today - Wednesday 5th Feb.

    Old: 10.3.7.154

    New: 10.3.7.271

If you still have the problem, I would suggest calling Support with your update credentials to see if the creds have been moved to the latest warehouse and if not moved.

You can find your updating credentials by opening SAV on the client and click on "Configure updating".  The username on the next screen would be enough info to provide to support

    Regards,

    Jak

  • Hi,

I can tell you exactly what this is, as I'm experiencing identical problems all all my (onsite and offsite) Vista machines. It's the "block access to malicious websites" setting that is causing the connection problems. When you switch this off you connectivity comes back. None of my Windows 7/8 machines are affected.

The only problem is, I can't find a way of disabling this setting globally at the cloud control panel level. You can disable it on the client using the steps below, but every time you log out of the machine and back in, you have to disable the setting again.

    Steps:

    1) Login to your cloud control panel, manage, global settings, click the "show" button and copy your Tamper code.

    2) On your client machine, open the program, configure, authenticate user, and paste in the Tamper code.

    3) Go to configure, antivirus, web protection. Set "Block access to malicious web sites" to "off" and click OK.

Sophos - Can you sort this ASAP please?? It happens on all our Vista machines both in the office and off-site.
