Can you confirm what Os you're currently using on your device? Was this only happening on one system, or you're observing this on multiple systems? 

OS is 13.7

mac is iMac 18.3 i5

this is happening on a fresh install of ventura

no i managed to install sophos and join the AD domain on another mac, which was a trashcan mac and i think thats 2013

I was able to find some details in our KIL list which may be relevant in your case. While the domain name override might not be used in your case, checking if the Account type is set to "mobile" may help.

Central Endpoint for macOS: Domain Name Override for reported users only works for Mobile accounts

The feature to enable domain name override for reported users on macOS, detailed in this KB: https://support.sophos.com/support/s/article/KB-000036151 , requires that the user account type is Mobile.

By default, a direct Active Directory join uses this user type, however some other providers may not set it. Sophos’ detection of the user as a domain one requires the user account type to be mobile to trigger.

So could I do this when I install it

sudo ./Sophos\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Sophos\ Installer --domainnameoverride <domain>


Or this one when I've already installed sophos

scutil

show State:/Network/Global/SMB


And then to turn it on

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.sophos.mcs SMEMcsPreferDomainName -bool true; sudo launchctl stop com.sophos.configuration

So could I do this when I install it

When logging in to the device, please try using the "mobile" account created via these steps. Please let me know if this resolves your issue.
