beach ball on mac on logon screen

hi all,

got a weird problem on a mac when joined to the domain and sophos is installed and all sophos services are up and running

on sophos central and on the local mac i get both green tick so i know sophos is installed/running and happy

but as soon as i restart the mac get to the login screen i cant login my AD user, i get the spinning wheel and after a while i get the beach ball (cant even login to local account)

so i have to start the mac in recovery mode, open up terminal and run the below to remove sophos

rm -R /Library/Sophos\ Anti-Virus/
rm -R /Library/Application\ Support/Sophos/
rm -R /Library/Preferences/com.sophos.*
rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.sophos.*
rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.sophos.*
once i have done that i can login, once logged in i run the sophos removal tool to uninstall sophos
when i restart, i can then login locally and using my AD user
has anyone else experienced this?

thanks,

rob

  • So could I do this when I install it

    sudo ./Sophos\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Sophos\ Installer --domainnameoverride <domain>

Or this one when I've already installed sophos

    scutil

    show State:/Network/Global/SMB

And then to turn it on

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.sophos.mcs SMEMcsPreferDomainName -bool true; sudo launchctl stop com.sophos.configuration
