    Thanks for reaching out to the Sophos Community Forum. 

    Allowing a peripheral by Model ID exemption will allow you to use the same USB stick across different devices in your environment. This would be useful if an IT admin has troubleshooting tools they'd like to transfer from system to system or installation media they'd like to distribute individually to users. 

    Allowing a peripheral by Instance ID exemption means that only the combination of USB stick and Computer will be permitted. This type of exclusion is preferred when you want to allow a specific user to use their personal USB stick with their own workstation but do not want them to transfer data to other devices via that USB stick.
