User complaining of usage huge amount of memory

Hello everyone,

one of our users is complaining Sophos is using a huge amount of memory which slows down a lot his Macbook. He already performed a scan, which came negative. But what can we do to solve this?

For information, he's creating a lot of Python scripts and he thinks that this may cause the issue here.

  • Hi Jo,

Thanks for reaching out to the Sophos Community forum.

I suggest trying component isolation to see if there are specific scanning features which are having a larger impact on performance than others. If one specific component is found to be the culprit, you may be able to turn it off temporarily as an immediate workaround.

I'd also suggest raising a support case with our team so this can be looked into further. I suggest gathering an "SDR" log from the affected device, you can do so using the following steps.

The following procedure is required due to the special permissions on this folder.

    1. In Terminal, run: sudo cp -R /Library/Caches/com.sophos.sdr ~/Desktop/com.sophos.sdr
    2. sudo chmod -R 755 ~/Desktop/com.sophos.sdr
    3. sudo chmod 744 ~/Desktop/com.sophos.sdr/*
    4. Compress and collect the folder com.sophos.sdr from the desktop (There are two files: “current_running_processes”, and old_processes.txt)
