Sophos Update failing on multiple machines

Hi All.

I am having an issue with multiple machines failing Sophos update over the weekend.

This includes relatively new machines. I am receiving the following error:

Failed to install sau: general error.

I have tried uninstalling but receiving the same error.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

  • Hi Hanif,

Thanks for reaching out to the Sophos Community Forum.

If the AutoUpdate component is missing, could you check if the following directory is populated with the "Sophos AutoUpdate.msi" package? You may need to turn off Tamper Protection so you are permitted to browse into the directory.
    - C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Cache\decoded\sau

If the file is present, I recommend turning off Tamper Protection and running the following install command from the directory above. This will give us more information on why the install of SAU is failing.
    - Msiexec.exe /I "Sophos AutoUodate.msi" /L*v C:\Windows\Temp\SophosAutoUpdateVerboseInstall.log

Checking the existing logs present in the directory mentioned by SophosUser930 would be a good first step, but if there is only limited information available, I recommend proceeding with the above.
