limit disk usage? high usage when scanning files (> 95%)

There's a way to limit the disk usage during sophos antivirus scan?
We have machines with always active background programs that open and close communications with other machines, but if they have saturated resources, sometimes errors occur and operators waste a lot of time to reset them.

  • That is SAVService.exe (Sophos Anti-Virus service) which is part of the SAV component.  This is about to be removed.  If you join that computer to the EAP for example it would be removed.  If you install from a newly created Sophos Central account it would also not exist.  I thought this worth mentioning.

I would do as follows though to understand it:

    1. Is SAV running a scheduled scan.  You can check SAV.txt under: C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\logs to see if a scan has started but not ended.

    2. Run Process Monitor for a minute while this is happening.  Is SAVService.exe reading particular files?  You should be able to filter to SAVService and read file operations, Maybe exclusions could help if it's a database type file for example.
