Macbook Airs with M1 failing to update

We have about 250 new Macbook Airs with M1 that are having trouble getting updates.  The event listed is " Updating failed because no update source has been specified."  I can go into Central and click Update Now and it will update but the alert will just come back again the next time.  Has anyone else had this issue?

  • Hello Tim,

Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos Community.

As an initial step, I'd recommend ensuring the domains and ports outlined in the following documentation have been white-listed on any network firewalls in your environment.
    - Domains and ports to allow

If you continue to experience issues, please let me know. I'd recommend gathering an SDU as well so that we can look into the logs to check further.

  • Thanks for the help.  I've doublechecked and made sure all the domains and ports are whitelisted.  It's just strange that the 500+ intel macs we have do not have the issue.  Uninstalling and re-installing the client works but is there any easy way to do that to 250 computers?

  • There are some options to change the installed software on the affected device directly from Sophos Central.

It is possible to do so by ticking the boxes next to the devices you'd like to interact with, then selecting "Manage Endpoint Software". You can see these options under the "Endpoint Protection > Computers" menu.

Due to the nature of the issue itself in that the endpoints cannot connect to the updating location, I am unsure if this will work though it is certainly worth a try as it's much easier than going to each of the devices locally.

Let me know if this helps.
