Exclusion definitions

Hi,

one easy question. From my understanding the exception in Central

C:\ABC\EFG\

is in Sophos Central technically the same as

C:\ABC\EFG\*

or

C:\ABC\EFG\*.*

correct or incorrect?

  • Hello LHerzog,

    incorrect. Slight smile
Interestingly the Help for the on-premise SEC describes wildcards quite differently although SAV is essentially the same. Neither hekp is as clear as it could IMO be,

C:\ABC\EFG\ should be equivalent to C:\ABC\EFG\**. It excludes everything in the folder and its subfolders (a folder exclusion in SEC's terms)..
C:\ABC\EFG\* or C:\ABC\EFG\*.+  excludes only files in the named folder (in SEC's terms a file exclusion)..

  • Thank you

The on-Prem help you provided is a bit more clear here

    Specific folder

Specify a folder path including a drive letter or network share name to exclude everything in that folder and below.

    D:\Tools\logs\

Include a trailing slash after the folder name.
