Endpoint user interface - is it required?

I'm trying to lean up a terminal server - and was just wondering if the UI is necessary for the under the hood operations of the endpoint?

I suspect not, as reporting goes back to Sophos Central anyway, and the UI should be able to be loaded on demand for diagnosis...

Any advice greatly received.

  • It is primarily for desktop notifications rather than protection.  I suppose users might wonder why a site is blocked or a file denied without a visual prompt.

Sophos UI.exe is launched from the run key as you probably have seen, you could disable it from Task Manager or from the run key.  The other option to consider is running "sophos ui.exe /exit" to quit the process for maybe certain users rather than all?

    Hope it helps.

  • Very helpful thanks, Although it seems like a minor savings, with the use case of this terminal server the less running the better.

    Thanks again.
