Reboot required but computer keeps being protected

In my company we have several servers and to reboot them we need to schedule the operation long time in advance.

When Sophos updates an Endpoint; appears a message saying more or less

Reboot required but computer keeps being protected

Now I would like to understand what it exactly means; as:

--  The new virus definition and software are beeing used to protect the server (In this case I can wait before rebooting the computer)

-- The new virus definition are used but the new software is not used  (how big is the impact in this case; can i wait?)

-- The old virus definition and software are used by the server (I think I need to reboot in short time; maybe today)

For me this is an important point so I can schedule the server reboot without affecting the server security

Tahnk you and best regards

Giuseppe

  • VolatileFlags generally set by Auto Update and general meaning is restart is required to complete the update. its not about Virus definitions, but core components that require the update, For example: Sophos Endpoint Defense currently is 2.2.1.44 and it will update to 2.2.x.something after the reboot.

I would recommend a schedule for reboot as soon as possible, as components might be updated to protect against newly released threat
