Version 9.5.2 Released Today

Question

Hello everyone, 
 We just released Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition version 9.5.2 to all users today. This version has been in "preview" status for a couple of months and we've had great feedback. Thanks to the people who installed the preview, we got more than seven thousand installs since its availability in early June. 
 You should see approximately a 30mb download followed by the update. As mentioned a long time ago, we do not support macOS 10.6 or 10.7 any longer, and the installation will fail. We do fully support macOS 10.8 and up, and this version should correct the updating issue seen on later versions of the Sierra 10.12 public beta builds.

I too want that version NOT the Sophos home. I had downloaded sophos home for Mac and had to remove it - IT Totally messed up my time machine. After I removed it the time machine is working once again-UGH for Sophos free Home for MAC

Hello Tim, 
 I asked one of the developers to investigate this, here is the answer: 
 I created a sparse bundle image, and copied the El Capitan installer to it. After this, there was a sustained 30% cpu usage for about 2 minutes from process diskimages-helper as it accessed in turn each file component of the sparse bundle. Once that was completed, CPU usage dropped to normal levels. 
 This was using the SSD drive of my iMac. On a removable USB stick this process is likely to be much slower, and may well cause a higher CPU usage. 
 Insight into which file is being scanned is available by using the following command in Terminal: 
 $ nc -U /var/run/com.sophos.diagnostics.view | grep "oas perf" 
 Hope that helps explain what is going on. The diagnostics log can be very useful to figure out what is happening in a case like this.
