How To Access Encrypted USB Drive

Hello,

I've spent a lot of time searching the forums for an answer this and I can't find one.

I have a laptop drive removed and placed in an external USB enclosure that I need to decrypt. I have the correct password for the SafeGuard version on the drive, but I've lost the password for the windows system on the drive, so I can't boot from the drive and I need to access some files by attaching it to another laptop as a USB drive.

I've downloaded and installed SafeGuard Easy for home version 6.0 on the laptop I've attached the drive to.

And here is my question, I can see the drive in Explorer as drive F: - how do I gain access to the drive using SafeGuard so that it will challenge me for the password and I can unlock it and access my files?

Thanks in advance for your help!

JMac

  • Hi JMac,

which product (and version) did you use to encrypt the original drive? If it was SafeGuard Easy 5.x/6.x do you have access to the recovery key file (*.xml file) that was created right after installation of the product?

    Cheers,

    Chris
