DataExchange: Editing an encrypted file

I have stumbled across a curious issue that I haven't been able to find in the KB or on the messageboards. I have SGE 6.00.1 DataExchange client installed with the policy set to encrypt files written to removable storage (in this case USB) using the domain key. I create a .txt file, it is encrypted. I create a Personal key with a passphrase and re-encrypt the file with this key. So I have both the domain key and the private key on my keyring. I double-click the file to open it and it opens in my chosen program (in this case, Notepad++). However, if I edit it and try to save it, I get the error "Please check if this file opened in another program." I am unable to save the changes. However, if I right-click on the file and select Edit, it opens in Notepad and I can edit it. Why is this happening?
