Company-wide computers are slow after sophos encryption

Hello there,

I am supporting a company that is experiencing their computer's performance slowing down after I installed the latest Sophos agent. The only product we are using is the BitLocker and file fault service to encrypt the HD's. Can anyone shed some light on this issue or have experienced this before?

Have you configured the client to use file/drive encryption on local drives or have you included network drives? What version are you using please and what OS on the clients?

Finally, the Macs that are reporting the issue have 8 Gb of memory.

You also need to define what you mean by slow.

When you turn on FileVault or Bitlocker, the write filter provided by the OS does an XOR of the data stream going to the write head with the key cipher stream. This is a very lightweight action and shouldn't have any significant impact to read/write times.

The encryption will only be interacting with read/write to disk - anything else is outside of what the encryption touches.

So, what exactly is slow and how are you defining the slowness?
