Recovery Key for Volume --- is missing on Macbooks

Some of our Macbooks have a recurring issue where Sophos cannot encrypt the machine due to a missing recovery key.  We think it might have to do with FileVault, but are having difficulties finding any solutions for this error. In situations like this, what would be the proper steps to take troubleshoot this problem?

  • There's a few things to check/answer first -

1 - I would confirm what SSG version are you running on the Mac.

2 - What Mac OS version is it?

3 - Is the drive actually encrypted (does FileVault report it's turned on)

4 - What does the SSG Mac client report the drive is?

5 - If it IS encrypted - was it by any chance encrypted BEFORE SSG was installed - If so you'll need to import the key into SSG

    Cheers
