Totally stuck in installation with freeze in detecting hardware

Hi folks,

I am totally messed up here. I spent a few 100 Euros now in order to get me a decent box for Sophos (and maybe later some VMs on the same machine, this is why it's a bit overpowered) and what I have no is nothing [:(]

I bought :
ASUS H97M-PLUS mainboard 
core i5-4460
8GB DDR3 Ram 

The board has a intel I218V on board and so I got another NIC card from Intel (IntelRegistered Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter with PCIe X1), Controller 82574L.

So I put the box together, updated to the last bios, also updated the firmware of a corsair ForceGT 120 and gave it a go.

But I never get past "Detecting other devices", the system always freezes there. And I tried a lot until now. I deactivated all the not used SATA Ports, the Audio controller, the not used USB controllers, nothing of these worked out.

I can see on screen (see sreenshot) that it sees the CPUs, then the disks, the SanDisk Cruzer is my install USB-stick, then it detects both NICs and then... Game over...

I tried it with asg-9.209-8.1.iso and with asg-9.113-1.1.iso . I have the same behaviour in both installations. I am really broken-hearted at the moment as I thought this would be a pretty decent box and now I have these big problems.

I also saved all the logs of the last run to the USB-stick (which creates install.zip with all the relevant logfiles then), so if this helps i can post them or excerpts of then because some of them are pretty long. 

I would be really lucky if someone could help me out of this.

P.S: I decided to give pfSense a try now but this is not even recognizing the internal NIC (Intel 218V) at all, so also doesn't work at all. What a sh..., hope someone has a hint because I don't know what to do with this box...

    make sure the disk controller on the motherboard is set to ide or ahci and not raid...that's the first thing.  Also turn off any serial, parallel and sound hardware in the bios you can.  also make sure the bios is in regular mode not uefi.

    Hi William,

    ahci was already set of course, sound hw was also disabled already as mentioned above.
    I disabled serial and parallel port now, then changed all boot options to "legacy first", disabled secure boot (the system was still set to windows uefi and now I set it to "other os"). I didn't find any more options to disable UEFI or switch to a regular mode like it was in the past but I think it should be done with these options.

    Sadly it didn't help anything, it's still stuck and freezes like in the original screenshot above [:(]

    I also get this message when booting 
    can't evaluate _CRS :1
    drivers/rtc/hctosys.c: unable to open rtc device (rtc0)

    but after that the process went on, I was able to normally start the install until I got stuck like described

    Sometimes it's better not to use the newest BIOS always. I did downgrade stepwise to older BIOS versions until it worked. So this is solved. Luckily for me!

    Yes. Sadly, BIOSes are mostly optimized and tested with/for Windows only. Most vendors don't give a shit for proper Linux support.

    Have you tried booting from a cd-rom? Might be having issue with your USB stick during detection. I have had issue with that in past USB stick boot up.
