Trying to confirm Antivirus is up to date

Today is 4/07/2017

My clients update from a centralised server, server has Sophos Enterprise Console, which gets its updates from Sophos.

Enterprise Console reports Update manager last checked 4/07/2017, Configuraiton Matches, Version+1.6.1.24, no errors.

The end clients (tested 5) all say that the Virus data date is 1 week old:

Is this something to be concerned about?

  • The virus data you mention can be old, that the data that comes with the software before you add the supplemental IDEs.  You also have the cloud lookups as well.

I would suggest, checking the CID/distribution point and Endpoint for .ide files.  If these are recent you should be good.

    \program files (x86)\sophos\sophos anti-virus\

on the endpoint.  These are the ones installed rather than say the cache of AutoUpdate where they would just be downloaded.

  • Hello DanielBarnes,

every now and then this question pops up. To add some details to Jak's reply:
Virus data date refers to the release of the current version (here 5.41) of Detection data (also referred to as database or library), basically the stuff with a .vdb extension. This data is supplemented by Threat identity (.ide) files (please see here how to check for the latest), Last updated under -Software is the last time one or more have been downloaded (Last updated in the Status pane is BTW the time of the endpoint's last check for updates).
