I have a question here. i used to be able to do reverse dns lookups from my router when it was the dns server for my clients but now i have installed a Sophos Firewall XG home edition and disabled the dhcp server on the router i cant do lookups anymore it cant find the host. what i am trying to do is use a program like NSLOOKUP.exe on windows to find the ip of say AP30-01 and get it to return the ip automatically and to be able to access servers on my network through doing server1.local. is this possible or not just using the internal dns server on the firewall?
thanks
sam
HI ,
The DNS entry is needed but this would require you to configure a Static DHCP instead of Dynamic , XG does not support NetBIOS and you may need to setup up a WINS server to fetch NetBIOS information
