  • HI Harryv

Please right click on the sophos shield, Select 'Open Sophos Endpoint Security and Control'

    Select 'View Updating Log'

This will provide more information on why it is unable to update.

Things you can look at is:

Is computer Browser service started on the sophos server.

Is the account you are using to update locked out.

Otherwise, please provide more information to us to assist.

Is this happening on one machine or all the machines?
Did you do an upgrade recently, or is this a fresh install?

Are you running a domain or workgroup?

What did the Updating log file say (word for word)?

  • Hi everybody,

I have the same issue than harryv, when i try to update workstation "couldn't contact the server".

It's a fresh install (new server), in domain, SEC4.5.

In log update, my problem is here :

    Durée: 13/04/2011 19:54:09
Message: ERREUR : le téléchargement de SAVXP a échoué depuis le serveur \\CTM-2K8\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\SAVSCFXP\
    Module: CIDUpdate
    ID du processus: 6440
    ID du thread: 6760

It's just one line from the log, if you want to see the rest, i can post it.

I disabled windows firewall, put sophosupdatemgr as domain admin.... i don't have windows indexation service running.

When i look to the SEC, in details updates (sorry i'm french so i don't know the exact terms in english gui) the error code 0x0000006b.

I reinstalled workstation from the folder SAVSCFXP of my server...

I'm really desperate, anyone see the problem ??

    Thank you very much everyone

  • Hello Recha,

the details of the error should be in the ALUpdate<timestamp>.log in [%programfiles%|%programdata%]\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Logs on the client. Just search for Attempting to make a connection to remote machine \\CTM-2K8\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\SAVSCFXP\ - the following line(s) will likely contain a specific error code, please post them here.

  • Hi Recha,

    1) Can you resolve the name of the server on the machine?

    2) Right -click on Computer > Manage > Users and Groups > Users > right-click on SophosSAU[machinename]0 > Member of > Add Users

    3) Verifiy if the File and Print Sharing is enable on Network Adapter

Try it and let me know.

    Best regards,

    Mocelim
