no bootable medium after setup - weird, non-existent disk layout

Hello,

after my Sophos UTM broke down due to a failing hard disk i ordered a ssd drive for replacement. Further, i wanted to try the new XG Home Edition. The installation succeeded with no errors, but on the first boot the operating system couldn't boot "no bootable medium found"

so i removed the SSD from the system and checked the partition table:

from windows: nothing there

friom linux: nothing, too

Disk /dev/sdb: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren/Spur, 14593 Zylinder, zusammen 234441648 Sektoren
Einheiten = Sektoren von 1 × 512 = 512 Bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Festplattenidentifikation: 0x3db012b3

Gerät  boot.     Anfang        Ende     Blöcke   Id  System

                           cfdisk (util-linux 2.20.1)

                              Festplatte: /dev/sdb
                     Größe: 120034123776 Bytes, 120,0 GB
Köpfe: 255   Sektoren pro Spur: 63   Zylinder: 14593

Name        MarkierungePart.-Typ  Dateisystemtyp   [Bezeichner]   Größe (MB)
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                            Pri/Log   Freier Bereich                  120034,13*

As you can see, there are no partitions on the SSD.

After searching the forums i found some similar reports, which stated that the XG boots in another computer. so i replaced the drives from my notebook with the XG SSD. And it boots.

Question: Why is there no valid partition layout ? Why does it boot on some systems, while other systems get stuck with "no bootable medium found" ?
