Have Sophos Mobile Control send out Provisioning Emails?

I see in the control Settings There is a second to setting up to send an email to the user when they are configured on the system However, I have yet to get this to send an email to any of the test users I have created. I can provision devices and set people up however, no one is receiving an email.

Perhaps i am Misunderstanding this feature. Is this just the email that it sends if you provision people Via email rather than Text message? I thought it was an email it sends when you setup an account and want them to go setup their device.

  • Hi jbeumel,

I am not sure which setting you are referring to exactly as ther might be two possibilities.

Depending on the user directory you have configured you might have different email settings.

If you have the internal user directory configured, you would have two settings: "Provisioning via email" and "SSP welcome email".

If you have the external user directory configured, only "Provisioning via email" is available.

The "SSP welcome email" is sent out after you added a new user to the interal user directory. After saving this user he should receive the welcome email as configured in the "SSP welcome email" tab.

To send out the mail configured in "Provisioning via email" it would be necessary to manually add a device to SMC as an administrative user. Afterwards, you would have to enter a "0" as phone number and a valid email address. If you now try to send out the client package / bootstrap to this device an email is send to the email address configured for this device.

You should make sure that the "Originator" is defined in the "Provisiioning via email" tab and the SMC server is able to connect to your email server.

I hope I could answer your questions with the above description.

    Best regards

    Stefan
