Sophos Mobile Security for Android not working

Hello,

I recently bought my wife a Nexus 4 (with Jelly Bean 4.2.2) and then installed Sophos Mobile Security for Android.

I have setup Loss and Theft and the Overview screen has all green ticks. Feature Selection is everything except SIM change. Sophos is set as Device Administrator.

A text message password has been setup - let's say it is (turkey4121) without the brackets.

I don't have a smartphone (yet) and so am using my old Nokia 2100 which sends and receives text messages. It's phone number has been registered with Loss and Theft.

To test that I have Loss and Theft setup correctly I decided to try the alarm feature and so sent this text message (alarm turkey4121) - without the brackets of course.

Within a few seconds the Nexus 4 receives the text message but only as a message and does not trigger the alarm function.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Colin

  • I have almost the same behavior on my Nexus 4. I've tried with 3 different phone numbers from different providers. I do not receive the message and the sender does not receive anything in return. Any other message sent to my phone is received normally (photos, other text, anything) but when they send a command message like "locate mypass" nothing happens.

Is there a compatibility issue with Nexus 4?

I've found this thread reporting an uncompatibility with Android 4.3 but it's from July 31, among with a comment saying Sophos was about to fix that in the next few weeks so I imagine it had been dealt with.

Btw, I've set up the phones with country and area code as demanded by the software.
