We have had a few phones unable to enrol/sync the Sophos Mobile Security v5 app with our SMC server.
In each case the phones had an older version of the Sophos security (anti virus) app previously installed.
None of the phones that currently work and erolled ok had this older app and work fine.
Uninstalling the older Sophos AV security app makes no difference. Reinstalling the Sophos Mobile Security app after removing the AV app also made no difference.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
What happens is after tapping on the "Configure App" button it keeps going to the Sophos Mobile Control screen asking "Scan QR Code or Enter Manually."

if you are using a Sophos Mobile Control 5.0 server you should make sure that the both Sophos apps (Sophos Mobile Contorl and Sophos Mobile Security) are on version 5 / the latest version available in the Google PlayStore.
In general, there is no knwon issue regarding the compatibility of these two apps with an SMC 5 server.
If the app shows the "Scan QR code / Enter Manually" screen, then you have to start the "Enrollment" action from the SMC server or register the device using the Self Service Portal (SSP). Please be aware, that the links within the enrollment emails can only be used once.
