EC 4.5 Clients - savxp.msi fails to install

New server 2008 DC up and running, all computers logging on scripts running etc.

Install Enterprise console 4.5 on it, find computers using AD, right click to protect computers (previously updated from old server running EC 3.1) clients automatically uninstall version 7 and version 9.5 is installed all looking good until a day later when there's an update.

The client then fails to update with the failure 'failed to install savxp.msi' the path to the msi is 'program files/sophos/autoupdate/cache' this msi wwill not install manually either. However the ides are uptodate.

Any ideas?

  • Hello chrbb,

have the clients (are all affected?) been rebooted and did they correctly report to SEC after the upgrade?

until a day later when there's an update

Is the update location correct and what's the update interval? Does "a day" mean after shutdown and new boot or is it "a few hours"? Are you able to protect the clients again?

Are the logs (Sophos Anti-Virus Install Log_yymmdd_hhmmss.txt and Sophos Anti-Virus CustomActions Log_...) created? They might contain specific information.

Sorry that at the moment I have only questions

    Christian

  • All clients rebooted, are reporting to the console after the upgrade, policy applying etc.

The update location is correct, The next day when the clients are booted up in the morning the red cross is displaying. If I do a manual update files are downloaded but the install fails. The logs show that the original msi installs when the clients are initially protected but any further updates fail to install.

  • Quick update, savxp.msi still trying to install at every update, failing each time. Compters are updating as they have the lastest ides.

I reset a laptop back to factory settings and protected that with sophos, no problems at all with this machine. So am wondering if there is a registry setting somewhere or some leftover file relating to the old server and previous sophos versions. It's not practical to clean every computer and 'start again'  as staff use laptops all the time at work and home.
