Launch of the new list view

We released the new computers and servers device list page earlier this year as a beta and since then we have expanded it with a range of capabilities. It now has some significant advantages over the previous views and so we have launched it by removing the beta label and making it the main device list view in the top level navigation on the site.

There are some features we're still working to replicate, so for the time being the old views are still present in the endpoint and sever sections for when they are needed.

In most cases the new list view is faster, better handles large numbers of devices, has more information available and significantly improved filtering options.

Changes over the last few months

During the beta, we added a number of features and improvements to match the existing views and also some that were unique to the new list view:

  • Last OS update
  • More flexible filtering
  • Selectable columns
  • Resizable columns
  • Tamper protection disable (not just enable)

Upcoming enhancements

We have some other small enhancements coming in the next few weeks:

  • Server Lockdown support
  • More detailed Operating System filter
  • Encryption status

Longer term future plans

We plan to complete feature parity with the old list views. The key features the old device list views offered that the new one doesn't yet are:

  • Select all (more than a single page of up to 250 devices) to perform an action. We are expecting to add this by the end of this year.
  • Ability to filter, sort and search by device groups and users. We are expecting to add this in the first quarter of next year.
  • Ability to export all (more than a single page of up to 250 devices) info as a .csv file. We are expecting to add this in the first half of next year.

For now, these capabilities can still be found on the old device list views within the individual products, for example by going to My Products > Endpoint > Computers :

The next major objective is to extend the page to allow viewing of devices from across multiple Central accounts (tenants) for customers and partners who manage multiple subestates or customers, which we currently expect to be ready by the middle of next year.

  • It is highly visited, about a third of people using Central use this page out of the very large number of pages in Central. I'm not aware of a more visited page, barring the mandatory login pages or default landing pages. We haven't seen a noticeable change in the old device list views, but we'll keep an eye on the numbers.

Adding the user and device group search to the new page is a high priority item for us, thanks for the feedback that you find it valuable.

  • The devices don't have to have any protection to be be in the list, just managed; running a small set of components needed to allow management communications to central, update/install software etc.

A device could run the encryption and ZTNA but have no Sophos protection as a valid installation option.

Also, there are tiers of Sophos protection, based on license. Someone upgrading from the Central Intercept X advanced tier ("CIXA") to XDR, or even MDR, would need to know that they still have the CIXA tier on their endpoints and should upgrade when ready; they now have some but not all of their (newly) licensed software available. They might want to test or stage that upgrade or perform it outside of core working hours.

The "last successful update" time is coming soon. This will change when supplements (aka definitions, IDEs...) are updated, not just the less frequent software updates.

Showing the software version is also coming, we'll show the "core" version by default with the versions of the other components as optional columns. In the long term we will only need the core version, but for now the other components' info is still useful sometimes.

  • from your telemetry, is this devices> "computers and servers" even widely used? Due to the lack of searching users, I tested it a few times after it appeared but need to use the classic "my products" category to find what I'm looking for

  • The filters are kind of nice, but The Protection status filter is kind of useless.  I would already assume that any systems listed in the device list have protection installed (how else would they get there?).

I would rather see when they last updated the endpoint software or definitions, and what version each endpoint is reporting.

Until the 'last user' search functionality is back, I'm not impressed with this change so far.

  • We will be adding serial number in as an optional field (can be selected in the column picker) in the next few weeks. Currently only Mac devices send it, though this sounds like what you need. We will add serial numbers for Windows devices in the new year.
