9.3 Home UTM failing to send email notifications

Hi all.

My UTM (9.3) is set up to use my own mail server (sitting on a VPS somewhere) to send email. I've got a user on the VPS to send with, as I need to auth to it to send (don't do open relaying). 

I can connect and send fine using that user, and using STARTTLS on port 587 if I use Thunderbird. However, the UTM configured the same way fails miserably thus:

Yes, it is a .co.uk and a .net - the .co.uk is my 'infrastructure' domain, the .net my real one. 

I'm mystified what's going on here. Postfix on the server just records the UTM connecting and disconnecting, so it suggests it's connecting to the server, not seeing something it likes, and connecting again, but I've zero clue what. I've got UTMs at work connecting to Exchange and boshing out emails without issue, so I'm a little confused here!

Anybody have any bright ideas?

    Hi, did you set your ISP username and password for the SMTP authentication in the UTM settings?

      I did, yes. I tried all sorts of things. I was even playing with the allowed auth types on my server. In the end, it suddenly, mysteriously connected, albeit on port 25 with TLS enabled. I can only assume my server is doing something a little odd, and the UTM is getting confused.

      Of course, having got it working, it suddenly delivered about 30 emails all in one go [8-)]

      Still, it's working now, so that's good. [:)]
