We found several similar threads but nowhere a so far a solution which worked for us.
We would like to setup a WAN interface for our VDSL connection.
The Router for the DSL Line is setup to "Bridge" mode and we defined an IP Adress for it (192.168.1.34), so the router is working transparently and just forwarding the signals directly to the ports, firewall.
When we plugin a computer directly to the router, we can setup a PPPoE connection successfully and the internet connection is working.
But when we setup an interface on our astaro firewall for PPPoE, we are getting the following error in the PPPoE log:
2011:10:28-15:50:27 afw pppoe[16785]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
2011:10:28-15:50:27 afw pppoe-sh: Can not connect DSL AC - retry in 5 seconds
2011:10:28-15:50:47 afw pppoe[16791]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
2011:10:28-15:50:47 afw pppoe-sh: Can not connect DSL AC - retry in 5 seconds
over and over again.
State and Link of the interface are both down.
We have attached a picture of our configuration of the interface on the ASG.
We have restarted the firwall and the firmware is up to date.
So far all was working but since a few weeks we are having trouble.
It would be great when we could get some support here.
what I see in print-screen you are doing it wrong is not needed the Ip of the modem since is in bridge mode "Static IP Address" is for the ip that your ISP gaves you, and in most cases is assigned from your ISP depending from username and password Do this simple test
set the reconnect time in the pppoe interface under advanced from 5s to 1min. That should do the trick. ah, just saw, for switzerland. do not set the static IP, use DHCP - you get the ip from the ISP. And DO NOT CHECK the VDSL checkbox in switzerland, this setting is for germany only.
If your vdsl modem is operating in rfc1484 bridge mode this should bring you online.
BTW: with the netopia VDSL Routers (these things with built in wlan) its also possible to do pppoe dial with the router and pass the public ip to the ASG, which is configured as cablemodem interface instead of PPPoE Interface. but this is a little bit complicated to explain via Forum.
Thanks for the many tips. Unfortunately we tried most of the things mentioned already before we posted the request. However, I will now retry them since we may made some mistakes when we clicked around frantically in the web interface. Will let you know about the result Thanks Patrick
Hi All,
Well, case closed it worked. Attached you find he working configuration. As you see it basically contains all the hints I received in this thread
BUT
as I said we tried these settings before. “Why did it not work then” you ask me?
Well, believe it or not but it seems the settings where not properly saved in the original interface object. I had a suspicion that this was the problem because I unchecked VDSL and then saw that it was not saved (when I reopened the edit screen VDSL was checked again). I saw this earlier today but at that time I thought it must have been a mistake from my side.
Anyway, now I was sure something was wrong and I made a clone of the not working interface. Then I deleted the original interface and corrected all settings on the cloned interface ==> all works fine now!
yep. the unchecking of the vdsl checkbox doesn't work in 8.202 as far as i know (bug). forgot this...you have to delete and recreate the pppoe interface to uncheck the checkbox.
