LCD video resolution default vga=??? version 6.x

Greetings,

Could someone please explain if the following chart is still applicable to version 6.x.
It worked perfectly in version 5.x.

Colors    640x480   800x600  1024x768    1280x1024
   256       769           771             773           775
 32000     784           787             790           793
 65000     785           788             791           794
16.7 M                                  786           789             792           795

thanks!

  • I believe this is built-in to the linux kernel, so I wouldn't expect it to change.
(I use 795 on my Fedora notebook which is a 2.6 kernel.)

Regardless, I'm sure this information is on the web somewhere.

The second link is from 1994, but looks appropriate, and has even more modes listed.

    • Greetings Barry,

Thanks for the reply. Previously in version 5.x I was able to use vga=788, which also works in version 6.x. However, it appears to function more like the nosplash mode. Was just curious, as it's not too important, since I am able to connect via ssh or https. I was more interested in the different functionality between the versions.

      Thanks again.

      Respectfully,

      Kohi
