From the wi-fi alliance:"if TKIP is required to support legacy devices on their networks, then network administrators shoud take additional protective measures such as keeping TKIP devices that are firewalled or independent of other networks. So that works better together with a UTM. See also https://www.wi-fi.org/download.php?file=/sites/default/files/private/Wi-Fi_Alliance_Technical_Note_TKIP_v1.0.pdf

Hi,
I created CWIFI-3837 to track this. We currently use AES for everything. Selecting TKIP has some implications. TKIP was used in 802.11g. To my knowledge, 802.11n specifies that AES needs to be supported. When selecting TKIP, many access points of different vendors go into a compatibility mode and run 802.11g, which reduces the theoretical throughput to 54Mbps.
Kind regards,
Dirk Bolte
