"Unable to detect Primary disk" when installing XG Firewall on HP DL385 G2

I'm currently running UTM 9 on an HP DL385 G2 server. It installs perfectly fine. The HP SmartArray that's installed uses the cciss driver in Linux. During the hardware detection phase of the UTM install it correctly shows that it's using the cciss device.

When I try to install Sophos XG Firewall as soon as it loads the installer I get an error: "Unable to detect Primary disk press y to reboot"

I have no other options. I can't drop to a shell to debug or anything.

Does XG not support cciss devices? In this thread someone is using XG on a G6 HP server which would also be using a SmartArray controller that uses the cciss driver.

Here is a screenshot of what I see when I boot up into the XG install media.

One odd thing of note, the XG install ISO that I'm downloading from here is only 289MB vs the 790MB UTM 9 install ISO.

Is there something I can do to fix this?

Same problem here as well. Sophos UTM 9 will install just fine as well as esxi 6, pfsense, clearos, etc. Not sure where the problem lies at in this.

What hardware are you using? CPU, motherboard, RAID controller, HBA, SATA/SAS?

HP DL385 G2, P400, 4 x 146GB SAS drives, AMD Opteron 2218 HE. This is a test machine I had laying around to test XG out on real hardware instead of a VM. Installs fine on a VM.

UTM 9 installs fine on this machine, why won't XG?

TedAmes,

try to ask to other user using HP G6 server if he has a HW raid controller on board.
Maybe the driver is not loaded inside the kernel so XG cannot find the HD/RAID group.
Same issue on Vmware ESXi that do not support Sw RAID.
Also you can try changing BIOS settings and use disk as alone and not raid/smart array.
Mine it is a suggestion!

These HP SmartArrays do not support JBOD mode or direct access. You must use the RAID array and the cciss drivers to access the disks on these servers.

The 4 drives are set up in Raid 10. How would I get XG to load the cciss drivers? Any ideas?

Without being able to drop to a console I have no ideas other than mounting the ISO and editing it to attempt it to force loading the cciss driver. I might try that if I can find the time.

Nevermind. The image contained in the ISO is encrypted. I can not mount it.
