How to migrate from XG115w with Red20 to new XGS116w?

Hi guys,

I'm upgrading from an XG115w with Red20 to XGS116w.
XG115w running firmware: SFOS 20.0.3 MR-3-Build427
Red20 running firmware: 3.0.010

Am I able to run a migration for this instead of manually re-setting everything up?
If so would the steps be run a full backup of the XG115w and then go to the new XGS116w and run a restore.
Will a migration auto import the Red20 or do I need to do any manual steps to import the Red20?
Do I need the XG115w and the new XGS116w to be on a particular firmware's to achieve this?

Kind regards
Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

Thank you for reaching out to Sophos Community.

You can perform a migration by backing up the XG115w and restoring the backup on the new XGS116w.

This automatically imports the Red configuration as part of the restore process. However, kindly prepare the RED Unlock code for safety measures before migration.

    • Hi,

the XGS116W will need to be on the same firmware version. Or you downgrade the XG115W to the previous version of v20 assuming the XGS116W has been upgraded to v21?

      • Hey

The XG115w is running firmware v20.0.3 MR-3-Build427 - What version will I need to downgrade it to?
The XG116w hasn't arrived yet, what firmware version should I try to install on it to do the migration?

        • V20.0.2, but see what is installed on the xgs first.

          • You have two options.
You need to have 20.0 MR3 on the XGS or V21.0 MR1 (which is not yet released).

So if you get your new firewall, deactivate in the wizard the automatic installation process, lunch the firewall, and manually update to V20.0 Mr3. Then restore your backup.

Try the following:  Sophos Firewall: Replace an XG Firewall with an XGS Firewall by using Zero Touch Deployment

            • thanks

Thanks for everyone's input! This is my plan:
              1. Prepare the RED Unlock code for safety measures before migration.
              2. For the XGS - deactivate the automatic installation process, manually update to version 20.0 MR3.
              3. Run a latest backup for the XG.
              4. Restore XG backup to XGS and then perform any upgrade or cleanup as needed.
