Turn 1GBPS INTERFACE SPEED TO LAN

Hi Team,

I've a problem and needing for resolve,

About my config:

- 3 Routers WAN with 1Gbps (connected to sophos)

- 1 Sophos FW XGS 2300

- 14 Switch ARUBA 6100 (Port in POE/1Gbps)

The problem is in the "PORT1 Interface SPEED LAN" => 100 Mbps. I tried to turn it on 1000Mbps and the port down, so after reboot, I got this with Physical 1000Mbps/LAN 100MBPS

But for really, the port1 LAN is 100Mbps.

Why the interface speed of LAN are in 100Mbps  How can I solve it ?

The interface speed is fix on 1000Mbps but in really it's in 100Mbps !

What is the solution ?

  • Hello MasterJoker,

if i understand you correctly you talk about that the (internal) speed through your XGS is limited to 100 mbps? If so please check your cabling and maybe test another cable. Also set the setting "Interface speed" to "Auto Negotiation".

The issue you descripe sounds like a defective cable (or maybe a port on the Aruba switch) so the XGS is setting the speed to 100 mbps.

  • Hi, thanks you Thomas for your response,

I tried to change the cable, with another new cable, and still same problem.

    For Aruba, config set, look for LinkSpeed;

but other port is on 1Gbps :

  • Do you have an additional free interface on your XGS so you can check if this interface is settings its speed to 100 mbps too?

New/free interface on XGS -> same interface on Aruba switch - both sides with Auto Negotiation
(if the XGS will set the speed on the new/free interface again to 100 mbps, try another port on the Aruba switch)

  • Hi,

You can not set the interface on XGS on 1000 FDX (fixed) and the switch on auto. You have to set them both on the same setting. Auto for both is the default, but you can also set them both to 1000 FDX.

But you have a problem (port or cable) on the switch or XGS if they can't Auto to 1000 Mbps.

I have multiple XGS's on HPE Aruba CX6x switches without problems, So you may want to check the switch.

  • For years there is a rare issue with auto negotation, which simply does not work in some setups. To bypass this, you have to set it manually on both ends.

If you are not doing this, and you run into such a limitation, it will automatically use the slower speed.

  • Hi Team,

I've fixed "Auto Negotation" on both, and it's the same issue.

On Aruba Switch, i can't fix "1000 FDX manually", you have "100-full" only and "auto negotation".

  • Did you try the steps i wrote above with changing the interfaces?

  • Is the Aruba Switch possibility limited to 100 Full only? If this is the Max for manual setup, it looks like, the Aruba Switch is limited.

  • Yes, tried but the same problem.

  • I tried to do this by cmd "gigaethernet" to the interface, and same problem..

    I changed the cable too...
