last week CPU was 4.9%. After upgrade CPU usage is steady at 22%. Anyone else notice this?

When will be the new upgrade come? Is it an automatic updating process? Thanks in advance.

  • I've had upgrades that have higher CPU usage for a surprisingly long time. I mean I could literally look at the graph and see higher usage for a day or more. But it's dropped back down every time, eventually. I haven't figured out if it's just a reinforcement bias on my part. Maybe I'm looking extra-closely after an upgrade and am more sensitive. Maybe I have extended runs of elevated CPU at other times, but it just doesn't register in my mind.

I've also wondered if it's maybe a bug related to existing patterns that works itself out after a pattern update. Or I've thought that I use an XGS87, which is bottom-of-the-line and maybe I'm using the GUI a lot right after an upgrade and it might be doing some housekeeping, etc, and...

Anyhow, in my case I've seen a jump from 10%-ish to 20-25%-ish that lasted overnight or even a day (maybe two) but in the end things fall back to the usual range. Right now, my average is 11% on v19 EAP1.

  • The GUI does hammer the CPU especially on the low end machines.

  • I have unsolved open ticket for the high memory usage our device memory usage has been around 90% (+-10%) since end of the last year.  This created was 29.11.21 but issue started month earlier.

After multiple calls/emails our ticket was finally escalated and I got this reply yesterday (02/03/22) from Sophos support.  The issue is Exim service which is for sending emails is utilizing high CPU. Our unit is XG210 with 30 users.

    Support solution

    • The top output does not cover the system services CPU usage, it covers the CPU usage for user-space services.
    • The CPU graph in diagnostics > system graph also does not cover the system services usage, it covers user space services.
    • The control CPU percentage show for system and user services, so it is high

    Next Actions:

    • Is there any impact due to the high CPU shown in the Control Center?
    • If there is no impact then there is no need to do anything.
    • If there is a impact due to the high CPU shown in the Control Center then we can try a workaround which required downtime of 15-20 minutes and restart of SMTPD services.

To be honest I don't think anyone want to see their firewall resource monitor hovering near %100 and clow red hot, so defenetly want it to be fixed.

Hope this helps if you're struggling with the same issue.
