Sophos XGS Licensing using Home XG Licence

Hi,

I was hoping to get some clarification on this. If I purchased a new XGS appliance (e.g 107W) which comes bundled with an Xstream license, after this license has expired, is it possible to use the Home XG License key on it?

This will be purely for home use. I understand that this is currently possible to do with XG Appliances, and just wanted to confirm its also possible on newer XGS appliances.

Additionally, is there anywhere we can see the Wi-Fi coverage of say the XGS 87W or 107W in terms of sqm coverage? And what would be the best option in terms of extending its coverage?

Thanks kindly.

  • Hi,

you can use the XG home licence on your XGS, you will need to either replace the disk or completely format on an external formatting platform. I am not sure about the inbuilt AP for use with the home licence, coverage area will depend on where you locate the XGS. An APX120 would probably be best to expand your WIFi coverage and can be managed from the XGS. The current range of Sophos APXs only use WIFI5.

  • Hi Ian,

Thanks kindly for confirming that for me! I really appreciate it.

  • Hi,

Does the software version 18.5 have drivers for the built-in WiFi card? At some point UTM started to support internal cards, so maybe the XG version as well?

  • One issue: XG Home is bound to a software installation. Software installation does not include the drivers of the XGS Hardware. Therefore you will run on the Hardware but without the support of the NPU etc. (as far as i know).
