Dynamic DNS (using ZoneEdit) Doesn't Update?

I'm experiencing a rather odd issue with Dynamic DNS in Sophos XG 17.5.5. In WebAdmin, under Network/Dynamic DNS, everything seems fine. IP addresses are shown correctly and Last Updated Status shows "Success". I also checked the ddc.log which shows <SUCCESS CODE="200" TEXT="[domain name] updated to [IP address]" ZONE="[zone]">. However, the domain name does not resolve. When I log into the ZoneEdit site, it shows outdated IP addresses and not those that XG in WebAdmin (which are correct and current). I can however manually update in ZoneEdit and once I do so connectivity is restored.

I imagine this must be some sort of issue with ZoneEdit but I thought I'd perhaps check here first to see if I might be missing something on why ZoneEdit is not being updated even though XG swears up and down that it has been.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to diagnose this would be most appreciated.

  • Hi

You can check in Log Viewer for System logs and Filter log component as DDNS. Or you can also check ddc.log in from CLI. Refer this KBA for a logfile guide. From there we can be sure if there was something with communication to ZoneEdit servers. Hope this helps.

    • Thanks Jaydeep. I have checked the logs, per my note above. The ZoneEdit folks are looking into things on their end. I passed the logs onto them.

On a somewhat related point, I do hope Sophos makes some improvements to viewing/downloading logs. It was so nice, clean and easy in UTM - just navigating through the webgui.

Also, not that it's a big deal, and it's certainly Sophos' prerogative, but I'm curious why the other replies, particularly the one from the ZoneEdit folks where they offered to look into things, were deleted? Was there something problematic about them? Just want to make sure I understand the rules here.
