Can't install Profile

So here's the story; updated to SMC 4.0 earlier this month, and also updated our UTM (production) to 9.203.  We are a Sophos Platinum Solutions partner, so we tend to experiment with new features, etc. before recommending them to our customers.  So I decided to test out the UTM / SMC integration feature.  Here's my story:

1)  Edited the profiles already pushed to our Android 4.4.2 (Galaxy 4) phones to remove the static Wi-Fi configuration from the profile (yes, I know that currently this feature doesn't work anyway on G4s with 4.4.2, I was the one that reported it ... however I was just interested in testing the profile "push" functionality)

2)  Sent the updated profiles to the phones; this worked fine per the task list in SMC

3)  Pushed the "automatically created" Wi-Fi profile published by the UTM to SMC to the phones.

4)  This task failed

5)  OK... checked the device properties in SMC.. now NO profile is displayed as installed (awesome!)

6)  So... I tried to push the old profiles back to the phones -- this task fails every time, no profile shown in properties.

7)  Tried changing the "ID" and "Version" parameters of the profile, this didn't help.

8)  Creating a small "test' profile that turns on teh camera (etc.) does push out, and deletes from the devices fine.

So... I have started a support case with Sophos already... just seeing if anyone has had something similar happen in the realm of not being able to push profiles like this.  We've been selling and supporting SMC for over a year now and I have not seen this before.

  • So, a little update.  So far recovering from this issue seems to only be possible by uninstalling all Sophos Mobile Control components from the device, and performing a reconfiguration operation.  Sophos Support has moved my case to escalations; it does seem that the UTM to SMC link is the cause of the trouble.
