Shut down Sophos Mobile Control Server and remove all devices and users

Hi

Our company was acquired and I am looking for the best way to shut down Sophos Mobile Control server and decomission all the devices.  Is there a way to send out a mass decomission to all devices?  I do not need to keep any of the profiles or settings on people devices.   Obviously I do not want to wipe them either though.  Just remove all the company profiles and settings and return them to original.

Thanks for the help.

  • Hi philyboy1,

This depends on the version of Mobile Control you're using. In SMC 5 there is a way to tag all devices and execute a task on them.

For example, if it's an iOS device:

    1. Make sure your device is turned on.
    2. Open the 'Settings' menu.
    3. Go to the 'General' options and select it.
    4. Select the 'Profiles' section.
    5. Open the profile 'Sophos Mobile Control'.
    6. Click the 'Remove' button.
    7. Every profile which was installed via Sophos Mobile Control is now uninstalled and the software is removed.

If the SMC client is installed (this is an optional component) you should also remove it.

    1. Locate the application on your device.
    2. Remove the application in the normal way.

  • Thank you for the response.  I am on version 5.  I would be interested to know about how to tag all devices for removal job?

I have several hundred devices and don't want users to run anything manually.

    Thanks

    Phil

  • philyboy1,

    Login to the web panel.

    Manage>Devices>Check-all box | Actions>Decommission

  • Ugh my screen doesn't look like that so I double checked version.  I am on 4.0.2.0!   Ooops

So I am guessing there is no way to do this until version 5?

  • philyboy1,

You could design a task bundle to remove mobile control/provisioning profiles/data from the devices but a decommission completes it gracefully and strips out everything mobile control did while leaving the phone/data intact.

You can always upgrade to Mobile Control 5, then run the decommission. But the jump from 4>5 is a pretty big application change as a lot was overhauled between the releases.
