SOPHOS MISSED MALWARE

I've had Sophos installed for a year maybe and THOUGHT I had the best AV protection BUT MALWAREBYTES has just found 2 HIGH RISK Malware Plugs ins Adware.lgexin that were installed by 360 camera app that are specifically designed to STEAL user PERSONAL details and of which SOPHOS TOTALLY MISSED AND I had it all set correctly. *UPDATE* OPERA HAS JUST BLOCKED A MALICIOUS SITE & SOPHOS MISSED IT COMPLETELY DESPITE SOPHOS WEB GUARD BLOCK ON ?? EXPLAIN DEVS ? PS, I'M KEEPING SOPHOS as everyone makes mistakes and I like the product BUT ACTIVATING MALWAREBYTES 24/7 Thank You

  • Hello,

thanks for the hint. Please be assured that we take this very seriously!

Can you please submit a sample of the affect apk to

    https://secure2.sophos.com/support/contact-support/sample-submission.aspx

so we can analyse why this app was not detected?

Or security analysts will take care of it from there on.

    Regards

    Thomas

    • I have uninstalled the application as the Devs state the app is 'SAFE' BUT it STILL contains the Trojan detailed in my 1st post and MALWAREBYTES detected it STRAIGHT Away But Sophos did not. The Camera app is READILY available from the Google play store and is called Camera360 Ultimate and is by the company PinGuo Inc. And the Trojan is ALSO contained in their second app called MIX by Camera360. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS download them from the play store and PinGuo from CHINA say it's nothing to worry about BUT MALWAREBYTES state it is a Trojan that steals users personal info. SOPHOS NEVER detetected it at all so WHO AM I TO BELIEVE ? Do i have to install a new AV when I like Sophos or is this "TROJAN* SAFE and nothing to worry about? I MEAN, I CONDUCT business on my android Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop 5.0 PLEASE ADVISE ASAP and thank you.

          • Hello Sandy, I did UNINSTALL 360Camera at the time AND I did tweet the Devs along with some other clients AND I also noticed that ALOT of people have been complaining to 360Camera for some time about the malware Adware.lgexin contained in the App AND Malwarebytes detected it straight away as a PUP but Sophos did not.

HOWEVER, After i tweeted them in public and ALSO on Google play then 2 days later I installed it again as I like it and it was CLEAN and I can ONLY assume that the Devs in China decided that it was best to take it out of the app?

Either way I need the best AV there is and at the moment it appears to be Sophos but obviously it missed the Adware.lgexin from 360camera when I had PUP ticked in settings AND it missed a malicious site that Opera blocked when I had my Sophos settings set to Block malicious sites.

All in All we ALL make mistakes BUT I may have to go back to PAID ESET AV as I'm unsure about Sophos altogether now but stand to be corrected. I just NEED assurance but Sophos never seem to reply to clients.

            Regards
