3.0 show location - how to update more frequently?

hello

As the title states, I would like to know how to change the setting so that my show location either 1) updates more frequently or 2) a way for me to push an update

I thought hitting the refresh device would do this but it does not. We have techs in the field that from time to time we like to see where they are at and I wanted to use this feature to do so but it doesnt help when it shows the last refresh or synch was 5 hours ago or even longer.

Can anyone help me?

  • Hi EESJeffH,

for Android devices, you can request a new location by pressing the small world globe button.
When the pop up is shown you have the possibility to either request a new position by pressing the blue checkmark button or use the old position by pressing the world globe button again.

If you want to get the location of iOS devices, the possibilities are very limited due to the given functionalities in iOS
Requesting a location from the server is currently not possible. The only thing you can do is to decrease the radius in the 'Settings' and the 'iOS Client' tab.
Then the app will synchronize the new location everytime the device moves the specified radius.
However, if the user disables the location service for the SMC app you cannot get the location.

    Best regards

    Stefan

  • I am not seeing where you are advising me to go to change the radius settings for iOS. I do not see anything for iOS settings. Can you be more specific please? Thanks!

  • Hi EESJeffH,

sorry if I was not clear enough. I'll try to be more specific.

After logging in as an admin at the SMC web console enter the 'Settings' by pressing the 'Gear' button.

In the 'Settings'. switch to the tab 'iOS Client'. There, you can configure the accuracy which is applied to define when the newest location will be sent to the server by the client.

Please be aware that using a smaller radius also decreases the battery life time.

This is also described in chapter 11.2 of the SMC 3.0 admin guide

    Best regards

    Stefan
