Force geolocation on android phones

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to force geolocation on android phones when SMC is deployed.

I can see that on Windows Phone's compliance rule, I can enable "App must be able to locate"

Does there is a similar option for Android's phone ?

Can I also be informed if an user turn off or does not allow SMC to locate his phone ?

Regards,

Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

on Android, the Sophos Mobile Control client is device administrator.

Due to that, the SMC app is always able to use the locate functionality and you cannot remove this right.

Therefore, there is no compliance rule for that.

The only thing a user can do, is to remove the device administrator for Sophos Mobile Control. However, the device would then be listed as "Unmanaged" in the Sophos Mobile Control web console.

On iOS or Windows Phone however, users can specify if the app should be able to use the "Locate" feature or not.

That's why the compliance rule is there.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards

    Stefan
