Weird behaviour of Macs in EC - they come and go

Have read several similar questions on here but nothing that matches my situation.

Have for a long time not had our Macs in EC, until recently there was no urgent driver. We did install it manually when they are setup and the generally kept updated.

Recently I decided I want to see in EC if they are up to date and active.

I used Casper/Jamf to create a policy and have distributed it to all our Macs (we only have about 45). The policy was created by their imaging software monitoring the install on my Mac and then building a pkg file.

Now I see bizarre behaviour -

  • different Macs will appear in the EC as managed and then disappear again, seems any more than two is not tolerated.
  • when they disappear from being managed sometimes they appear in Unmanaged
  • sometimes they do not show anywhere but may show up in Managed again on their own

I am wondering if the problem is the method of deploying. Is there a machine ID that is created during the install so that now most of my machines have the same ID?

If so is there somewhere I can delete that, rebuild the package and redistrbute?

Cheers

Simon
