Enterprise Console 4 Migration

I've nearly finished migrating to EC 4 with Sophos Update Manager. I have one "primary" SUM which picks up from Sophos and several "secondary" SUMs which pick up from the primary. All SAV client machines have been transfered from legacy updating policies and now receive updates from their new SUM locations.

However there's one minor apparently cosmetic issue. Some of the secondary SUMs are showing "Migration Failed" against their corresponding Alert fields in the EC Update Managers screen. If I try and run a "View Migration Report..." the option is greyed out. In addition, if I try "Acknowledge Alerts...", I can put a tick in the box to clear the alert but when I click "Acknowledge", the tick disappears leaving the "Migration Failed" alert in place.

Again, I should emphasize that everything is working fine apart from not being able to clear down this alert.

  • Hello,

you are sure that migration has been successful? And no other hints or error messages (when viewing the SUM's details)? If MigrationData.xml is present in the SUM installation folder delete it (or move it somewhere else). Take a look at How to resolve ... Can't guarantee it helps but it's probably worth a try.

    • Hi,

If you know the system to be working, I wouldn't worry too much about the migration failure.

The inability to Acknowledge the alerts of SUM is a bug in version 4.0 which is fixed in 4.5 apparently.  Something to do with a mix up in the database between computerid and ID.  So it's possible to acknowledge alerts where the computerid and the corresponding id in the SDDMservers table in the SOPHOS4 database matches.  Which would be the same for the management server but potentially different for child SUMS, unless of course you roll out all your SUMS first, rather than deploying clients in between.

Also I think they might automatically get purged after 14 days but if not you can use the command line tool PurgeDB.exe, details here:

      http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/109884.html

Although when purging SUM alerts you will also need to follow:

      http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/109660.html

to fix up some XML which is fixed in 4.5.

And if you are running on a 64bit machine you will need to follow:

      http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/66929.html

which is also fixed in 4.5.

I hope this is of use.

      Thanks

      JAK

      • Hi JAK,

Thanks for the update. I'll try your suggestions when I get back in work early next week.
