Wireless network connection broken

When I installed Sophos anti-virus on my notebook computer, and then re-booted the computer, the wireless network found my wireless network, but it couldn't connect to it.  I disabled Sophos and then re-booted, and the network worked just fine.

Does Sophos interfer with wireless network hardware or software on boot up?  If so, is there a setting that I can change to keep that from happening?

    I installed it from a CD given to me from my IT department.  The version is 9.  The only error I saw was that Sophos complained it couldn't access updates because the network was not working. 

    I don't know what SCF is.  The only thing I installed was the anti-virus.

    Is it possible Sophos tried to update itself before the network was booted up and thus causing some sort of lockup?
