Wireless network connection broken

When I installed Sophos anti-virus on my notebook computer, and then re-booted the computer, the wireless network found my wireless network, but it couldn't connect to it.  I disabled Sophos and then re-booted, and the network worked just fine.

Does Sophos interfer with wireless network hardware or software on boot up?  If so, is there a setting that I can change to keep that from happening?

Thanks!

  • Hello DKH

where from did you install it? Which version and did you also install SCF? And apart from the symptom - did you see any (error) messages, pop-ups, entries in the event log? It's hard to give meaningful answers without a few details.

  • I installed it from a CD given to me from my IT department.  The version is 9.  The only error I saw was that Sophos complained it couldn't access updates because the network was not working.

I don't know what SCF is.  The only thing I installed was the anti-virus.

Is it possible Sophos tried to update itself before the network was booted up and thus causing some sort of lockup?

  • SCF is the Sophos Client Firewall.

You should ask your IT department, especially if you did not configure updates yourself since in this case the installation has been customized (and neither you nor we know what has been configured). Also they are IMHO the ones who should contact Sophos support.
