Unable to install on Mitac E230

Hi,

I bought a Mitac E230 (http://client.mitac.com/products-Embedded-Box-PC-PlutoE230.html) with the express reason of installing UTM, I have build a number of USB installers and have gone so far as to buy a DVD rom (I know) to try but it won't pick up the OS as bootable in the BIOS. I have installed Linux Mint to make sure there wasn't an issue and that installed without an issue.

Is there something specific I have missed, or need to change in the BIOS?

Any help or guidance very gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

Bob

  • Hi Bob,

this might be the wrong place to ask this question. Try: https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/f/hardware-installation-up2date-licensing

The installation is very streamlined when you use supported hardware.

Burn the ASGxxxx.iso to dvd an boot your hardware like installing any OS. If ith won't boot, theres a problem with the .iso or the dvd.

The critical point is the hardware detection.

If it stops around 60% the problem is the wrong detection of your HDMI Port. -> Put drive to another hardware, install UTM and then put the drive back.

If no NICs detected, its no supported hardware.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you for your reply, that was my thoughts as well but wanted to be sure. I just can't get the iso to boot, but will keep trying.

Thank you again for your response.

  • I assume you purchased the dual LAN option? If not that will also be part of the issue.

  • Hi, Bob, and welcome to the UTM Community!

If the suggestions by CS and rfcat_vk didn't help and you have a non-HDMI display connection, hook up the monitor and show us where the install dies.

    Cheers - Bob

PS I moved this thread here and will delete the unanswered duplicate question.

  • Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all your help, so what I have done so far

    - built multiple USB installers on multiple USB sticks and built on multiple machines

    - burned iso to dvd for install

    - tested the iso in virtual box

    - installed Debian based distro on the Mitac machine to ensure that it was possible (linux mint if that is relevant)

    - ran Gparted from a USB to wipe the HDD so that worked as well

Sadly what happens is that none of the sophos installers (I have tried USG and XG) are recognised by the bios as bootable so it doesn't even start the install, does anyone know what the base OS is so I can test that?

I am slightly at a loss I bought the box specifically with dual lan for this purpose and can normally work through most issues but not being able to get it to even start the boot has me stumped.

Thank you again for all your comments and if anyone has any ideas happy to try anything.

  • When using ESXi, the standard approach is to start with a VM of type SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, so that is where I would start.

  • So I have tried a SUSE install, no problem using the same USB stick and the same iso installer and still the USG installer won't even be recognised as a bootable device, any ideas?  Any help or guidance would be really great as I am now officially stuck.

    Thanks

  • Hi

I am still having issues, does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Rob

  • Just install directly from the ISO file, Bob.

    Cheers - Bob
