Unable to install on Mitac E230

Hi,

I bought a Mitac E230 (http://client.mitac.com/products-Embedded-Box-PC-PlutoE230.html) with the express reason of installing UTM, I have build a number of USB installers and have gone so far as to buy a DVD rom (I know) to try but it won't pick up the OS as bootable in the BIOS. I have installed Linux Mint to make sure there wasn't an issue and that installed without an issue.

Is there something specific I have missed, or need to change in the BIOS?

Any help or guidance very gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

Bob

  • Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all your help, so what I have done so far

    - built multiple USB installers on multiple USB sticks and built on multiple machines

    - burned iso to dvd for install

    - tested the iso in virtual box

    - installed Debian based distro on the Mitac machine to ensure that it was possible (linux mint if that is relevant)

    - ran Gparted from a USB to wipe the HDD so that worked as well

Sadly what happens is that none of the sophos installers (I have tried USG and XG) are recognised by the bios as bootable so it doesn't even start the install, does anyone know what the base OS is so I can test that?

I am slightly at a loss I bought the box specifically with dual lan for this purpose and can normally work through most issues but not being able to get it to even start the boot has me stumped.

Thank you again for all your comments and if anyone has any ideas happy to try anything.

  • When using ESXi, the standard approach is to start with a VM of type SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, so that is where I would start.
