Astaro.org

Hi Everyone,

we've been planning a migration to a newer and more capable forum site for some time now, and were just a few weeks away from kicking off this process. Unfortunately, a recent vulnerability has appeared in the wild, affecting vBulletin, the software we were using for the astaro.org communities site. Astaro.org was not compromised from this vulnerability, but as a precaution, we did take the site down, to protect our users.

The site used a number of add-ons, and some custom plugins, which would need weeks of effort to convert and replace, if we were to upgrade the site and apply fixes for this vulnerability. As we were planning to migrate by that time anyway, we've made the decision to cut immediately to the new communities site, which has been running successfully for other Sophos products. To that end, we've spun up two forums quickly, where astaro.org users can again congregate. unfortunately, it will still take some time to complete the migration, so user accounts, and previously posted content has not yet been migrated. This process will take a matter of weeks to complete. In the interim, we will create a static view of the astaro.org, so content there will still be accessible. This should be completed later today.

This certainly wasn't the introduction we wanted for our new communities site, but we are excited about the new platform, and its capabilities. Please be patient as we step through this transition as quickly as we can. There will be some pain, but we will try our best to minimize it for you.

Thanks everyone for your patience, and understanding!

  • Sorry, I have not read all comments yet. So please if I have overlooked, excuse the lack of time. Question: Idea of when the old astaro forum information will be making its way to this new site? I have tried searching the old astaro forum and seems not to allow searching. I thought I read somewhere this was going to be searchable. Thanks in advance.

FOUND ANSWER!! Migration is being worked on this month. The searching however of astaro.org forum...is it possible? Is it not worth the risk?

  • Thank you, Mr. Anderson. :)

Would it help if we as Sophos customers expressed interest in this project to our Sophos Team Support?
  • Ruckus,

I registered here with the same email address as the old astaro.org site, but someone has used my astaro.org username on their profile. Does that mean that the migrated historical posts will use everyone's new profile username? That's pretty obnoxious.  There are already posts on here under my old username, so it cannot be rectified.

  • Hmm, I've been off busy doing other IT projects and not looked at the forum for a while.
Went back yesterday and found out what has happened.

The astaro.org forum was my go to place for support. Sophos support is frankly, awful. Turnaround times on emails are over 24 hours and finding someone who understands the product is difficult. With the old owners I could contact other users easily on the forum or even the developers within 1-2 hours usually.

Your main internet gateway is a mission critical device.

Resellers of Sophos are useless for support in Western Australia, they have zero understanding of the product. The reseller model is a failure, you cannot expect resellers to have a good technical grasp on the product without a ton of investment and a keen interest/enthusiast on the part of the reseller.

As a long time, (2001 / Version 4) multi license user of the Astaro product I'm afraid this is probably the end of the line for me which is truly a great shame.

  • On the 18.08.2015 In the old Board, I wrote a Post, warned you about not destroying the old community. There you promised, "nothing" will getting destroyed.

What you did was exactly the opposite. I guess, this is a kind of of newspeak...

I now waited a few weeks to give you the chance to improve this community before criticizing you. But there has been no noticable improvement so far.

Even if you go with hinsight and reconstruct the old board as a part of the new community.sophos.com, it's to late now. Once lost the people, they will not come back again.

Yes, I know... Having a well-working community is not traceable in sales figures, and thats maybe why there is no focus on that.

  • Just to post to both threads:

    Hi Richard,

I can't see the email you registered with here listed in the Astaro.org DB. Looking up the same domain there is info@[the same domain.com]

  • Thanks for this Michael,
Please also make the typo SMALLER, it is so confusing right now with theese big letters in the posts view, it's difficult to get a helicopter perspective right now ;)

  • Is there a way to merge my legacy teched_01 and teched accounts?

  • Any update on mimicking the look of the old boards with everything on one page, sorted into groups, and a reduced font size?
