KVM appliance performance consideration

I'm running XG on a bare-metal J1900 based board and most of the time it idles at 3-5% and it goes up to 30-40% on load.

I was thinking if it would run well virtualized. Sophos provides KVM appliance but I wasn't able to find how they configured it. Is the appliance using paravirtualized drivers or emulated? Paravirtualized KVM drivers are quite fast but emulated - no so.

Anyone has experience running XG in KVM environment ?
