DHCP through XG or UDM?

Hello everyone,

I'm testing the following configuration:

ISP modem home network - > Sophos XG in router mode - > UDM-SE

I've a number a VLANs configured on UDM and Sophos and everything communicates fine.

My current configuration has all IPs handled by Sophos DHCP and I have DHCP server disabled on UDM.

My question is if there are any benefits to keeping DHCP on Sophos rather than handling all DHCP through UDM?

One downside to keeping DHCP on Sophos is that my ad-blocker on UDM stopped functioning. Even though I enabled ad blocking via XG policies, it's not even close in effectiveness to UDM. I keep getting ads.

Thank you for any advice you may have.

  • Doesn't really make a difference which device hands out DHCP addresses. I'm not familiar with UDM, but I suspect that it maybe distributes other DNS-servers which in turn prevent a lot of ads. So check which DNS-servers are handed out by UDM and set the same servers up in Sophos (or change DHCP to UDM if it suits you more).
