Why does the Android app need so many permissions now?

The app didn't used to need all these permissions, but now Play Store wants me to grant it access to: Device & app history, Contacts, Location, SMS, Phone, Photos/Media/Files, Camera, Wi-fi connection information.

I am very uncomfortable with the idea of giving it all these permissions. Why does it need them?

  • Hi Ross,

the permission requirements haven't changed dramatically with the latest Sophos Mobile Security 5.5 release. There were only two additional rights added (access to camera, access to list of running applications).

Our knowledgebase article 117499 lists all permissions requested by SMSec and why they are needed by the product.
    Hope this helps.

    Best regards
    Stefan
